Line weight is the thickness of the printed line on your drawing. Line type scale is the length of the dots, dashes and spaces that make up your line type.

The British Standard for technical drawing defines the size of the dots, dashes and spaces that make up a line type in relation to the thickness of the line. So, the heavier the line weight the greater the spacing.
